Early in the year of 2006, after DirtOval.com had announced that there would be no more tour races sanctioned by them, a group of 5 people started what would become the largest followed oval race series in the United States.
Bill Albright, Jeff Cisney, Brock Heffner, Jessee McMath, and Ben Smyser had assembled a meeting in the interest of continuing where DirtOval.com had let off and give the racers a chance to put their skills to the test against some of the best racers in the world on a regular occasion but at different tracks over the state of PA. The idea was to give the track owners a day of play also where they do not have to do anything but have fun that day.
After the name of PA Nitro Tour was established, it was made public what was being planned and talks with the tracks began. There was little time left before the season’s opening so things were very rushed to get the schedule in place and get some sort of organization for the inaugural year. With cooperation of the tracks the dates were set and before no time the first PA Nitro Tour race was being ran. Numbers per race were overwhelming for five guys that had never had any experience in any type of race directing but everything seemed to go pretty well and most track owners were eager to have the Tour run a race for them the following year.
With the first year in the books the PANT was looking to build upon the first year and make it even better for the upcoming. Year two for the Tour was a little confusing with the tracks opening up tire rules and people wanting to run foams, the Tour had put a rubber tire only rule at the beginning of the year and felt it was best for the integrity of the Tour if we stuck to that rule no matter how much flack was expressed. The Tour had peaked the interest of a well known world wide sanctioned series and they had proposed joining them in part of a nation wide series. The members of the Tour had decided it was better to stay independent for the time being and finished up the second season with the first point fund being given out thanks to a generous donation from a sponsor.
Year three had began a little rocky with the departure of Bill Albright, the Tour was unsure as to what the future held. The first race people showed up in droves. The second race at Staub Brothers' RC Speedway, the Tour had the best numbers to date. 143 entries left the tour members speechless; The Third race was just as impressive. The 08 year is just half way over and the Tour could not be happier with the results thus far!
Thanks to all the racers for sharing their time with us and spending your hard earned money to get to the events…..You guys are the BEST!!
